Chunyong Chen is set to join the University of Pennsylvania as a Ph.D. student in Demography. He has earned a BEng in Automation and a MPhil in Demography from Shanghai University. His research interests lie in mortality and formal demography. Chunyong has conducted multiple studies during his time at the Asian Demographic Research Institute of Shanghai University, focusing on exploring epidemiological implications on population-level dynamics (e.g., trends in life expectancy and lifespan inequality). His scholarly contributions include published works on life expectancy and causes of death in a peer-reviewed journal. Presently, he is delving into the dynamics of age-at-death variations across sub-Saharan African nations and examining the shifts in China’s lifespan inequality through a comparative lens, focusing on specific causes of death and international benchmarks.
