I completed a joint Ph.D. in Demography and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. I received my BS degree in Hospitality Management and my Master of Engineering degree in Operations Research and Information Engineering–both at Cornell University. I combine my background in the study of ‘people’ and ‘processes’ and am now applying quantitative methods to answer questions in Sociology. My dissertation examines the social and demographic consequences of public and private health insurance in the United States. I use large, nationally representative data to relate health insurance environments to divorce, infant mortality rates, and other life course events. My broader research interest is examining the roles that educational and medical systems play in reducing or reinforcing gender and socioeconomic disparities.
